Unique paperlike display, read even in bright sunlight The way you read a book is about to change...
  • The introduction of the BEBOOK, an innovation by dutch company Endless Ideas, will set new standards in reading books. The BEBOOK is a portable e-book reader that lets you read digital content anywhere as you do on paper. Now you can take along as many books and documents as you like, on a device which is small and light as a single book.
Up till now there have been several ebook selling initiatives by leading publishers, but all have not been giving the sales hoped for. Main reason for this is the limited offer of portable reading devices in the past, capable of giving its user a comfortable reading experience.

    Read it in bright sunlight!
The newest generation of ebook readers with low power consuming E-paper and patented E-ink technology is about to change this. Now you can read a book or document even in bright sunlight comfortably and without your powersupply draining instantly. One 3-hour batterycharge will last at least 7000 pageturns. This could start a revolution in the way people will be reading books tomorrow.

    Unlimited storage capacity

Forget the large piles of books you drag along on vacation, just put them on your SD memorycard and put it in your BEBOOK. You will have enough space to fit your entire bookcase from home and your work into just 1 BEBOOK! And what about those studybooks, catalogs, company trainingdocuments and webpages? You just need one small and comfortable BEBOOK for all this.

The BEBOOK is capable of reading all popular digital document formats like .doc, .txt, .pdf, .jpg, .htm and .rtf files. It features a 6-inch reflective screen, a SD card slot, 512MB of internal storage and a USB connector. The BEBOOK's dimensions are 184mm (length) x 120mm (width) x 10mm (height) and it weighs just 220 gr including the battery.

Following the music industries hassle of the last years transforming into a marketplace where digital music is finally finding its place, now it's time for the more traditional bookmarket to change.
  • Longlife battery, one charge will last 7.000 pageturns!*
  • Fit your entire bookcase into just 1 BEBOOK

FAQ answered by Endless Ideas

I travel a lot. What will I do with my BEBOOK?
How many books and magazines can you put in your travel bag? How many books did you renounce to take with you because of the weight? Once arrived to destination, what do you do when you reach the last page of your last book?
If you have your BEBOOK with you, you will be able to carry with you all the books you want or to download them instantaneously.

Can I read in the dark with the BEBOOK?
No. The BEBOOK screen is not backlit. Just like a sheet of paper the BEBOOK E Ink® screen uses normal light to enlighten the reading surface. Your BEBOOK is thus readable in full sunlight which is not the case for almost all standard LCD displays.

How to install a new font on the BEBOOK?
Connect your BEBOOK to your computer via the USB cable. Copy your TrueType font file in the "Font" folder of the BEBOOK internal memory. You will then be able to choose it in the "Font Family" submenu.

Which music formats are supported on the BEBOOK?
MP3 is supported with no DRM.

Can additional software or programs be installed on the BEBOOK?
No, additional software or programs cannot be installed on the BEBOOK.

What happens when the batteries are completely discharged?
Nothing. Your data have been kept in persistent internal storage memory or SD card. You just can't use your BEBOOK anymore until you put your BEBOOK on charge.

Can I synchronize my BEBOOK with my computer as I do with my PDA?
No, the BEBOOK is not a PDA, no calendar, contact or task information can be synchronized with your BEBOOK.

Is there a touchscreen or a stylus on the BEBOOK?
No. At this moment there is no touchscreen and no stylus on the BEBOOK. You control the BEBOOK with its buttons. But this functionality will be available in future releases.

How many books can I store in my BEBOOK?
You can store your books either in the internal memory of the BEBOOK or in an extra optional memory card.
The internal storage capacity is made of 512MB (Mega Bytes) of persistent memory. It represents 2.500 standard books in HTML or Text format.

You can increase your storage capacity by using an optional memory card and get an extra storage space up to 4 GB (4 Giga Bytes = 4096 Mega Bytes). It represents 20.000 standard books in HTML or Text format.

Can I use the BEBOOK USB connector to plug other devices (camera, printer, keyboard, mouse...)?
No. At this moment you cannot connect it to a printer, mouse or camera. You can only transfer files using it's usb cable, connected to your computer or your optional SD memorycard.

How much does the BEBOOK weigh?
The BEBOOK weighs 7.76 ounces (220 grams) battery included.

For comparison:
- a standard paperback weighs 11.2 ounces (317 grams)
- a 3.5 inch screen smartphone weighs 4.8 ounces (135 grams).

Can I read on the BEBOOK anywhere?
Yes you can! The BEBOOK's screen is viewable under a wide range of lighting conditions, including direct sunlight and possesses a paper-like high contrast appearance. Like a sheet of paper, it can be viewed from nearly any angle, doesn't show any flicker effect and has a high resolution. When you read, you have no eyestrain and it definitely gives you the experience of reading from paper.

Can I listen to music with my BEBOOK?
Yes. The BEBOOK offers an MP3 player (see "Which music formats are supported on the BEBOOK?"). You can even listen to your favorite music as you read an eBook.

Can I browse the Internet with my BEBOOK?
No.

Can I read professional documents?
Yes you can, you can read any document you normally use on your computer. BEBOOK supports all .doc, .rtf, .txt, .htm, . pdf files. Also see BEBOOK specifications.

Can I read documents in other languages (Chinese, Greek, Russian...)?
Most of the time, yes.

For languages with a limited set of character as Cyrillic or Greek, the files can be read in all formats. The BEBOOK contains default fonts which can decode all these files. Please note that for text files, you will have to set a local information which specifies which is the language of the document.

For documents with an extended set of characters like Chinese, you will need to install your own font on the BEBOOK to decode your documents (except for PDF files which embed most of the times the required font). Please check "How to install a new font on the BEBOOK?".

Can I connect the BEBOOK with my computer?
Yes. You just have to plug the BEBOOK USB cable to your computer (PC, Mac, etc.). The BEBOOK is seen as an external hard drive. You can thus transfer easily your files.

Can I read several books at the same time?
Yes. Several books in different formats can be read at the same time, and you can switch from one to another very easily.

Can the BEBOOK be used by visually impaired persons?
Yes. Thanks to its abilities to increase the font size or to change the font family, visually impaired persons can comfortably read again.
